The Montréal New Horizons Band is always expanding its efforts to offer musical education for everyone, and this Winter we’re going all in with a new initiative to expand our reach: the MNHB Instrument Bank.
The big mighty sound of the Tuba is the heartbeat of the band’s low register, and oftentimes one of the most inspiring and remarkable parts of our music. But a Tuba is a very expensive instrument, and unfortunately many musicians who would love to play it cannot afford one.
Our new Tuba will be lent out to musicians who would otherwise be unable to play with us. It will help us achieve our mission by delivering our best music education and performance and helping the community vibe together in rhythm and harmony.
New Horizons Philosophy
The New Horizons International Music Association (NHIMA) is a worldwide organization comprised of over 200 New Horizons groups in the United States and Canada, whose 9,000 members are over the age of 50. For over twenty years, the New Horizons Music program has helped musical groups form to give seniors an opportunity to learn (or re-learn) how to play an instrument or become active in other musical endeavors.
The New Horizons philosophy, “Your best is good enough”, is the overarching umbrella that captures the positive spirit necessary for senior musicians to engage and succeed.
